Company spokesperson confirms cyber attack; systems down, but no customer data compromised.

American Family Insurance is investigating a computer system malfunction or breach that has interrupted online business and internet service for customers.

AmFam company that offers property, casualty, auto, commercial, life, health, homeowners insurance, and investment and retirement-planning products.

A screenshot of an American Family customer’s webpage displays an alert that reads “service outage”. The message states that online payments cannot be made due to the system being down. Customers are assured that they will not be penalized for non-payment and their coverage won’t be terminated as long as the computer system remains non-functional.

“This week, the technology teams at American Family Insurance detected unusual activity in a portion of our network. We quickly took precautionary measures to protect data and resources and shut down several business systems,” an AmFam spokesperson told BleepingComputer.

“We recognize the system outages are impacting customers, agents and employees and we appreciate their patience and understanding.”

“Our investigation into the activity is ongoing and includes internal and third-party experts. To date, we have not detected any compromises to critical business, customer data processing or storage systems, and several components of our enterprise continue to operate without interruption.”
